Required items for cooking Mutton Paya Soup:

1.    2 and 1/2 legs of lamb

2.    Salt according to test

3.    3/4 green cardamom

4.    1 chopped onion

5.    1/4 tablespoon ginger paste


6.    1/2 chopped tomato

7.    1/4 teaspoon garam masala powder

8.    1/2 tablespoon chana dal

9.    Water as per requirement

10.    1/4 tablespoon turmeric

11.    1/2 teaspoon black pepper


12.    3/4 tablespoon ghee

13.    3/4 green chili

14.    1/4 tablespoon garlic paste

15.    1/2 teaspoon red chili powder

16.    1/2 bunch coriander leaves

17.    1/2 tablespoon grated coconut

Time taken to prepare Mutton Paya Soup:

1.    Preparing Time : 15 minutes
2.    Cooking Time : 25 Minutes

Procedure for cooking Mutton Paya Soup:

First of all for making the Mutton Paya Soup grind together, roasted chana dal and grated coconut. Make a smooth paste out of them. Afterthat wash the legs of lamb (or you can say paya) thoroughly with running water and transfer it to a pressure cooker. 

Now add turmeric powder, cardamom, salt, and black peppercorns to it also pour 5 cups of water and allow the mixture to pressure cook for about 10 minutes. Afterthat  you can prepare the masala for the soup, give some heat to cooking oil in a frying pan or kadahi and add chopped onions and green chilies into it and cook until the color of onions turn light brown. 


Now stir in ginger and garlic paste. Let the mixture fry for 30 seconds. After frying add tomatoes, red chili powder, and the ground coconut and chana dal paste prepared and cook the entire amalgamation till it discharges oil. Now remove from heat. Now you feel the legs of lamb would have been cooked. Now open the pressure cooker and add the masala to it. 

After this, again pressure cook the mixture for about 10 minutes. Once done, then open the lid of the cooker and allow the soup to cool. If you want it to be watery, add water and bring to boil and at the end add garam masala powder and chopped coriander leaves. 


Let the soup cook on low flame until oil starts floating at the surface. Now the Mutton Paya Soup is ready to serve, remove the Mutton Paya Soup from the flame and enjoy hot and fresh.
